How long does shipping from China really take?
The honest answer is that it depends almost entirely on which shipping option the seller chose, and far less on the seller themselves. Two identical orders placed on the same day can arrive three weeks apart for that reason alone.

These are door-to-door figures including customs. They assume the parcel actually left when the label was created, which is often not the case.
The three phases, and where time is lost
- Handling (1–7 days): the seller prepares the parcel. A tracking number exists but nothing has moved. This phase is invisible on most tracking pages and is where "the seller is slow" complaints usually originate.
- International transit (5–30 days): the flight or ship. Expect silence here — often a single departure scan and then nothing until arrival.
- Destination processing (2–10 days): customs, then handover to the local carrier for the final mile.
The long silent gap in the middle is normal and is not evidence of a lost parcel. Cheap postal services simply do not scan in transit; there is nothing to report until the parcel lands.
What the checkout estimate really means
Marketplace delivery estimates are commercial commitments, not logistics predictions. They are deliberately conservative so the platform rarely misses them, which is why parcels frequently arrive well before the stated date. Treat the estimate as a deadline for opening a dispute, not as a forecast.
What genuinely makes a difference
- Buying from a listing that ships from a local warehouse. Same product, same seller, but days instead of weeks.
- Avoiding Chinese public holidays, above all Chinese New Year, when factories and logistics shut down for one to three weeks.
- Paying for a tracked service. Untracked economy mail is cheaper but you lose any ability to prove non-delivery.
