eBay is a marketplace, not a shipper. Every seller chooses their own carrier, so tracking behaviour depends entirely on who you bought from and where they are based.
Which carriers eBay uses
The number shown in your eBay order is the seller’s carrier number, whatever format that carrier uses.

20 to 22 digits, or UPU format ending in US
- Royal Mail
Two letters + 9 digits + GB

Two letters + 9 digits + CN

3S + 9-13 digits, or UPU format ending in NL

How long does delivery take?
Highly variable: 2 days to 6 weeks depending on origin
Times are indicative. Customs clearance in the destination country is the single largest variable and is outside the carrier's control.
What buyers get wrong about eBay
- Check the item location before buying, not the seller’s account country. A UK-registered seller can be dispatching from Shenzhen.
- eBay’s Money Back Guarantee runs on its own timetable; note the estimated delivery date shown at purchase.
- Some sellers upload a tracking number that is never scanned. If there is no first scan after several days, that is worth querying.
